A sudden fire at the Pachpadra refinery in Balotra/Barmer district on Monday afternoon caused widespread panic. The incident occurred as preparations for the refinery's inauguration were in the final stages, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit the following day.
How did the fire start?
According to preliminary information, the fire broke out around 2 p.m. in the refinery's Crude Distillation Unit (CDU). This unit is the main unit for processing crude oil, making it a highly sensitive site for fires. As soon as the fire broke out, security alarms sounded, and emergency protocols were immediately implemented throughout the plant.

Immediate rescue and relief operations
Upon receiving information about the incident, several fire brigade vehicles arrived at the scene and began efforts to control the fire. The employees inside the plant were immediately evacuated, and no injuries were reported. According to officials, timely action averted a major disaster.
