April 10, 2026: The case of "Monalisa," the young woman who went viral at the Maha Kumbh Mela, has now taken a serious legal turn. There has been an ongoing controversy surrounding her age since her marriage, and an official investigation has now revealed a significant truth.
According to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) investigation report, Monalisa was not 18 years old at the time of her marriage, but approximately 16 years, 2 months, and 12 days old. This finding has made the matter even more sensitive, as marriage under a minor is a criminal offense.
Questions raised on marriage, now legal action
Following the report, a case has been registered against Monalisa's husband, Farman Khan, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which considers any form of sexual intercourse or marriage with minors a serious crime.
From the beginning, the case has been dogged by conflicting claims. While Farman Khan has denied all allegations, claiming that Monalisa is an adult, the family and some others have consistently maintained that she is a minor.
Birth records revealed
The commission's investigation also revealed that Monalisa was born in December 2009 at a government hospital in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. Based on this, her actual age was determined.
The report also alleged that fake age documents (such as Aadhaar card) were prepared, showing him to be above 18 years of age.
The commission expressed concern
In its report, the NCST described the entire matter as serious and expressed concern about the role of certain organizations. The Commission stated that facts were distorted and a "false narrative" was created.
The Commission has also summoned the DGP of Madhya Pradesh and sought a detailed reply and status of action in the entire matter.
Director's statement
Director Sanoj Mishra, who has been active in the case since the beginning, said after the investigation report was released, "Truth has prevailed." He released a video on social media, defending the family's position and welcoming the investigating agencies' decision.
The Mona Lisa case is no longer just a viral story, but has become deeply entangled with serious issues such as underage marriage, forged documents, and legal responsibility. Further investigation and court proceedings will determine the course of this case.
