Amid the LPG shortage in Rajasthan, oil companies have made 5-kilogram small gas cylinders readily available to the public, but their price has surprised people. This small cylinder is more expensive per kilogram than both domestic and commercial gas cylinders.
What is the price?
A new 5 kg gas cylinder connection is available for approximately Rs 1490.
Refilling costs around Rs 616.
That means the price of gas per kg is approximately Rs 123.
If we compare it there:
Domestic 14.2 kg cylinder: Rs 916.50 (approximately Rs 64.50/kg)
Commercial 19 kg cylinder: Rs 2106 (around Rs 111/kg)
It is clear that the small cylinder is proving to be the most expensive.
Why did the price increase?
Oil companies say that this facility has been provided especially for laborers, migrant employees and people living temporarily, so that they do not have to face gas shortage.
Only one ID is connected.
Refills are available without any limit
But despite its convenience, its high price is becoming a problem for people.
Gas shortage became a major reason
LPG supply is not completely normal in the state at present:
There is a 25-day gap for domestic cylinder booking.
Availability of commercial cylinders is also limited to only around 70%
In contrast, 5 kg cylinders are easily available at petrol pumps and agencies.
What do the circumstances say?
According to experts, the higher price of the smaller cylinder is due to supply, logistics, and a convenience-driven model. However, for the average consumer, it has become a more expensive option, not a "cheap option."
Impact on the common man
Direct impact on daily wage earners
Expensive option for renters and students
Due to gas shortage, we are forced to buy it.
The government and companies introduced 5-kg cylinders to ensure easy availability, but their high price has turned what should have been a relief into a burden. Therefore, there is a need to either reduce the price or improve the supply of domestic gas to provide relief to the general public.
