An inspiring social initiative has emerged from Rajasthan , where the Kalal community has taken a strong and historic decision to curb the growing trend of ostentation and extravagance. A meeting of the community held in the Oberi region led to a consensus on several key changes aimed at simplifying traditions and reducing financial burdens.
There will be no more cake cutting at weddings and birthdays.
The society has clearly decided that the practice of cutting cakes at events like weddings and birthdays will be completely abolished. It is considered a Western influence and simplicity in keeping with Indian traditions will be preferred.
The engagement ceremony will be very simple.
Major changes have also been made regarding the engagement ceremony:
Now only coconut (Shriphal) and silver coin will be given.
The engagement ceremony will be performed on the same day as the Haldi ceremony, eliminating the need for a separate ceremony and significantly reducing expenses.
Control over wedding food and jewellery
The number of dishes prepared at weddings will be limited .
A ceiling limit on offerings of gold and silver jewellery was considered.
