Udaipur, Rajasthan, has seen a major and severe crackdown on corruption. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team arrested the Station House Officer (SHO) and a constable posted in the Mandwa police station area red-handed while accepting bribes. This action has caused a stir within the police department.
What is the whole matter?
This matter is related to a case registered under the NDPS Act. The process of naming four people as accused in this case was underway. It is alleged that station-level officers demanded a substantial sum of money in exchange for removing the names of these four individuals from the case.
It is reported that a total bribe of ₹20 lakh was agreed upon. The complainant reported this to the ACB, following which the entire matter was verified.
This is how ACB laid a trap
After finding the complaint to be true, the ACB devised a trap plan. According to the plan, the first installment of the bribe was agreed to be ₹8 lakh. As soon as the SHO and constable accepted this amount, the ACB team, already waiting in ambush, sprang into action and apprehended them.
The entire bribe amount was recovered from the spot and both the accused were taken into custody.
More secrets may be revealed in the investigation
According to ACB officials, the possibility of more people being involved in this case cannot be ruled out. Both accused are currently being thoroughly interrogated. Their past records and roles in other cases will also be investigated.
Questions raised on the police department
This incident has once again raised questions about the police department's performance and transparency. If law enforcement officers themselves are found involved in such cases, public trust is bound to be eroded.
Strong message against corruption
The ACB's action is being considered a strong step against corruption. Officials say that no one involved in bribery cases, at any level, will be spared.
This action in Udaipur not only serves as a warning to corrupt police officers, but also demonstrates that strict action is possible if a complaint is filed. The ACB's proactive approach makes it clear that the campaign against corruption will continue.
