Amid a shortage of domestic LPG cylinders in several areas of Rajasthan, a major black marketing scandal has emerged. According to reports, some shopkeepers and middlemen are taking advantage of the gas shortage and selling domestic cylinders at rates many times higher than the government-approved price. A case of cylinder black marketing has been reported from a grocery store, where cylinders were being sold to needy people at up to three times the price.
The entire network was caught on camera.
A video of the entire incident has also surfaced, in which an alleged broker is seen speaking with a customer, claiming to have a large number of gas cylinders. He clearly states that he has a sufficient stock of cylinders and can provide as many as needed immediately.
After the video surfaced, it is feared that domestic gas cylinders are being illegally stored and sold in black.
Stock being hidden in grocery stores and warehouses
Local residents allege that some shopkeepers have amassed large stocks of domestic cylinders. These cylinders are being sold secretly to needy people at inflated prices, not in the open market. In many places, domestic gas cylinders are also being used for commercial purposes, preventing ordinary consumers from receiving cylinders on time.
Preparation for administrative action
The logistics department and administration have swung into action after the matter came to light. Officials say that if the investigation confirms black marketing and illegal storage, strict action will be taken against the shopkeepers and brokers involved. This could include license cancellation and legal action.
Consumers are angry and demanding strict action.
Following the emergence of the black marketing of gas cylinders, there is public outrage. Consumers say the government and relevant departments should strengthen the gas supply system and take strict action against black marketers so that gas is available to those in need at reasonable prices.
