A massive boiler explosion at Vedanta Limited's power plant in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district has shaken the entire area. Nineteen workers have died so far in the Tuesday afternoon accident, while several others have suffered severe burns.
How did the accident happen?
It is being reported that a sudden explosion occurred in the boiler at the plant, engulfing workers working nearby. The explosion was so devastating that many workers died on the spot, while others were seriously injured.
Death toll and condition of the injured
A total of 19 workers died.

13 died in Raigarh hospitals
2 died during treatment in Raipur
36 workers sustained burn injuries, of which 18 are undergoing treatment.
Most of the deceased workers are said to be residents of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
Anger of family members, commotion outside the plant
Following the accident, the workers' families protested outside the plant. They alleged that the accident occurred due to management negligence and that no clear information has been released about the whereabouts of the many missing workers.

District Collector Amrit Vikas Topno has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the entire incident. The administration says it will thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and take strict action against those responsible.
Compensation and relief packages
Vedanta Limited has made a big announcement as a relief:
₹35 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and a job to one member
₹15 lakh assistance to the injured
Apart from this, help has also been announced by the Central and State Governments:
₹2 lakh to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 to the injured from the PM Relief Fund.
Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai announced compensation of ₹5 lakh each (for the deceased) and ₹50,000 (for the injured).
