A police investigation into the suicide of an MBBS student from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, who was studying at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rajkot, Gujarat, has revealed shocking revelations. The investigation revealed that the student had been subjected to prolonged physical and mental abuse by fellow students. Police have arrested five students in connection with the case.
According to reports, Ratan Kumar Meghwal, a 23-year-old final-year MBBS student from Jaisalmer district, committed suicide in his hostel some time ago. In a suicide note found after the incident, the student named five of his college classmates, alleging that they constantly harassed, assaulted, and mentally tortured him.
Suicide note reveals layers of torture
According to the police, in his suicide note, Ratan Kumar wrote that he had been repeatedly humiliated and physically assaulted by certain college students. This constant harassment had left him mentally distressed. In the note, he explicitly demanded action against those students.
5 students arrested after police investigation
Following the incident, Rajkot police launched a serious investigation. Based on the suicide note, mobile data, statements from hostel students, and other evidence, police detained and interrogated five students. After gathering sufficient evidence, they arrested them. A case has been registered against the accused under sections related to abetment to suicide, assault, and harassment.
The college administration is also investigating.
Following this incident, the college administration has also formed an internal investigation committee. The institution has stated that if any student is found to be involved in harassment or ragging, strict disciplinary action will be taken against them.
The family demanded strict action.
The deceased student's family hails from Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan. The family alleges that Ratan had been troubled for a long time, but had not disclosed the entire incident to the family. Following the incident, the family has demanded strict action against the accused and justice.
