Tensions escalated Saturday in the Strait of Hormuz, the Middle East's most sensitive sea route, after media reports claimed Iranian security forces opened fire on two Indian ships passing through. However, it's a matter of relief that neither ship was damaged nor any Indian crew members were reported injured in the incident.

The two ships—a crude oil tanker and a bulk carrier—were reportedly traveling on their scheduled route toward India when they were reportedly fired upon by boats affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), forcing them to change course as a precaution.

According to the Indian Shipping Ministry, the affected vessels include the "Sanmar Herald" (oil tanker) and the "Jag Arnav" (bulk carrier). According to marine tracking data, one ship was carrying crude oil from Iraq to India, while the other departed from Saudi Arabia's Al Jubail port.

The Indian government responded immediately to the incident, summoning the Iranian ambassador in New Delhi and demanding an explanation. The government also clarified that the Directorate General of Shipping is monitoring the situation and ensuring the safety of all Indian ships in the area.

Iran, on the other hand, has taken a different stance on the incident. Dr. Abdul Majid Hakim Elahi, the representative of Iran's Supreme Leader in India, denied knowledge of any such incident. He stated that India and Iran enjoy strong and cooperative relations, and that the two countries have a long-standing energy and trade partnership.

The United States is also closely monitoring these developments. Donald Trump criticized Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, saying that Tehran repeatedly attempts to exert pressure by threatening to close the passage, but that the United States will not succumb to such "blackmail." He also indicated that discussions on the issue are ongoing and that more information may be revealed soon.

It is worth noting that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important oil supply routes, carrying a significant portion of global oil supplies. Therefore, any tension there could impact not only the regional but also the global economy.

The situation is currently reported to be under control, but this incident has once again raised concerns about the security and stability of this sensitive maritime region. India continues to remain diplomatically active, prioritizing its maritime interests and the safety of its citizens.
