The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has taken major action in connection with the alleged ₹960 crore Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam in Rajasthan and arrested former IAS officer Subodh Agarwal . Agarwal, who had been absconding for a long time, was arrested from Delhi and brought to Jaipur, where his interrogation is ongoing.
What is the whole matter?
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, large-scale work was undertaken to provide drinking water to rural areas. However, an investigation revealed significant irregularities in the tender process, contract allocation, and payments.
It is alleged that crores of rupees were embezzled through fake companies and collusion.
Many contracts were awarded against the rules.
Misuse of public funds for personal gain
According to the ACB investigation, this scam is said to be worth around Rs 960 crore .
How was the arrest made?
The ACB had been searching for Subodh Agarwal for some time, and an arrest warrant had already been issued against him.
On Thursday, the ACB team raided his residence in Delhi and took him into custody.
After this he was brought to Jaipur under tight security.
Now he is being produced in the court and is being interrogated on remand.
3 accused still absconding
In this case, not only Subodh Agarwal but other accused are also under investigation.
The three main accused are still said to be absconding.
The ACB has intensified its search for him.
The process of attaching (confiscating) the property of the absconding accused has also been started.
