Patna: The Patna High Court has granted bail to Janata Dal (United) MLA Anant Singh in the highly controversial Dularchand Yadav death case. This decision has once again sparked political turmoil in the state.

what was the whole matter

The incident occurred on October 30th during the assembly elections in the Mokama area, when a clash between supporters of two rival factions escalated into a violent clash. Dularchand Yadav, a Jan Suraj supporter, lost his life. Anant Singh was accused of masterminding the entire incident, leading to his arrest on November 1st. Manikant Thakur and Ranjit Ram were also detained by the police.

Contested elections even after arrest

Interestingly, despite his arrest, Anant Singh remained uncontested in the Mokama constituency and won a resounding victory. He defeated RJD candidate Veena Devi by a margin of over 28,000 votes. Veena Devi is the wife of prominent Bihar politician Surajbhan Singh. After winning the election, Anant Singh took the oath of office as an MLA and met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to seek his blessings.

Postmortem examination changed the whole case

The postmortem report, released during the investigation, changed the course of the case. According to Bihar Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, a bullet mark was found in the deceased's leg, but the bullet was not the cause of death. The report clarified that Dularchand Yadav died from sudden cardiac and respiratory failure.

After the incident, the police administration also fixed responsibility and suspended the in-charges of Ghoswari and Bhadaur police stations, Madhusudan Kumar and Ravi Ranjan.

This election for the Mokama seat was also in the news because it saw a direct contest between two strong political faces, Anant Singh and Suraj Bhan Singh, who have had regional influence for a long time.

If we talk about the political scenario in Bihar,

Looking at the broader political landscape, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returned to power with a landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. The alliance won 202 of the 243 seats, while the Grand Alliance was limited to 35 seats.
