Rajasthan is implementing a new rule to make the domestic gas cylinder booking process more secure and transparent. The state's Food and Civil Supplies Department has directed all oil and gas companies to make OTP (one-time password) verification mandatory to ensure consumer identity during online bookings.
Under this new system, whenever a consumer books a gas cylinder through a mobile app or the official website, an OTP will be sent to their registered mobile number. Without entering this OTP, the booking process will not be complete.
Why was this decision taken?
The government has been receiving complaints about fraudulent bookings, duplicate connections, and unauthorized deliveries in various locations. This step has been taken to prevent these irregularities and ensure gas is delivered to the right consumers.
To whom will the rule apply?
This rule will apply to bookings made through mobile app and website.
It is mandatory to have a registered mobile number
Booking will be considered confirmed only after entering the OTP.
Important things for consumers
Keep your mobile number updated with the gas agency.
Do not share OTP with anyone
Keep your network and mobile active while booking.
The purpose of the government
The main objective of this new system is:
Stopping fake bookings
Making the gas distribution system transparent
Providing gas to genuine consumers on time
What will change?
This change will make the gas booking process a little more stringent, but it will also make the system more secure and reliable. This will also provide relief to ordinary consumers, as their bookings will now be less likely to be misused.
