The Pachpadra Refinery, located in Rajasthan's Balotra district, is now in its final stages of construction and will be dedicated to the nation with a grand ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 21, 2026. This project is set to prove to be a milestone in the state's industrial development.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma will visit the refinery site today to finalize preparations ahead of the inauguration. He will be accompanied by top administration and police officials, who will thoroughly review all arrangements, including security, the public meeting venue, and the helipad.
CM keeps a close eye on the preparations
The Chief Minister's visit is not merely a formal inspection, but rather to ensure robust arrangements at every level. Officials have prepared detailed plans for the Prime Minister's gathering, traffic management, and security protocols.
PM will visit Rajasthan for the second time in two months
This visit by Prime Minister Modi is significant because it will be his second visit to Rajasthan in the last two months. He previously inaugurated major development projects in Ajmer in February. The inauguration of the Pachpadra Refinery is being seen as another major economic signal for the state.
A journey of 13 years: From foundation stone laying to inauguration
This mega project began in 2013, when Sonia Gandhi laid its foundation stone. It was then extended in 2018 by Prime Minister Modi with new conditions and revised costs.
Over time, due to technological changes, Covid pandemic and other reasons, its cost kept increasing and now it has crossed the figure of about Rs 79,000 crore.
Balancing modern technology and the environment
This refinery is considered to be equipped with the most advanced technology in the country. The fuel produced here will comply with international emission standards. Importantly, the liquid waste generated throughout the process will be virtually zero, promoting environmental protection.
It has an annual capacity to process approximately 9 million tonnes of crude oil, with oil coming from both foreign and domestic sources.
Major hub of infrastructure and employment
Along with the refinery, infrastructure in the region is rapidly developing. New railway lines are being laid for freight transport, which will simplify logistics.
The project is expected to provide employment to thousands of youth and also accelerate the development of petrochemical industries in the vicinity.
The map of development will change in Thar
The Pachpadra Refinery is emerging as more than just an industrial project, but a symbol of economic revolution for western Rajasthan. April 21st will mark a new chapter in the state's development history, marking the beginning of a new story of energy and prosperity from the Thar Desert.
