A significant decision has been made regarding the education system in Rajasthan, in which four important textbooks taught in grades 9 to 12 have been removed from the curriculum for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year. This decision was implemented following the approval of the state government and the recommendations of the board, as a result of which these books will no longer be taught or distributed for free.
Which books were removed?
The books removed from the syllabus by the Education Department primarily dealt with the history and culture of Rajasthan and post-independence India. These include:
Class 9: Freedom Movement and Heritage of Rajasthan
Class 10: History and Culture of Rajasthan
Class 11: Golden India after Independence (Part 1)
Class 12: Golden India after Independence (Part 2)
All these books were taught in both Hindi and English medium.

Why was this decision taken?
The main reason behind this decision is said to be the discontinuation of these books. A proposal in this regard was submitted by the Ajmer Board of Secondary Education, which was approved by the state government. Following this, the Education Department issued official orders.
It was told that this step has been taken in compliance with the Board's letter dated April 11 and the instructions issued earlier by the Department of Comprehensive Education.

What are the instructions for schools?
The Directorate of Education has given clear instructions to all the District Education Officers and officers associated with Samagra Shiksha that:
The removed books should not be taught in any school.
Their use should be completely stopped in the session 2026-27.
These books should not be distributed or studied at any level.
It has been asked to ensure strict compliance of this order.
Who decides the syllabus in Rajasthan?
The responsibility for setting the school curriculum in the state lies with two major bodies:
Classes 1 to 8: Rajasthan Council of Educational Research and Training (SIERT), Udaipur
Class 9 to 12: Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education
Based on their recommendations, the final decision is taken by the state government.
What will be its effect?
This decision will significantly change students' education, especially in subjects related to Rajasthan's history and the independence movement. These subjects are now likely to be taught through a new curriculum or new textbooks.
According to education experts, the aim of this change could be to update the curriculum and make it in line with the new education policy, although detailed information on this is yet to be revealed.
This decision by the Rajasthan government and the Board of Education is being considered a major change in the state's education system. All eyes will now be on what new content will replace the removed books and how this will impact students' preparation.
