Jaipur |
Tensions escalated during the "Save Oran" march in the capital, Jaipur, on Thursday, when a minor clash broke out between protesters and police. The march, led by Ravindra Singh Bhati, an independent MLA from Shiv in Barmer district, drew hundreds of people from across the state.

Protesters moving towards CM House were stopped

The march began from the Bhawani Niketan area on Sikar Road and aimed to reach the Chief Minister's residence and submit a memorandum to the government. However, citing security reasons, the police stopped the march midway. As protesters attempted to move forward, a scuffle broke out between them and the police, leading to a tense situation for some time.

Seeing the situation, a large number of people sat on the road and started protesting by raising slogans.

Demand to save forest and pasture land

The protesters' main demand concerns the protection of traditional "orans" (protected forest and pasture areas) and grazing lands. They say that due to a lack of proper records of these lands, encroachment is rapidly increasing. This is not only causing environmental damage but also affecting the livelihoods of farmers and herders.

MLA Bhati made allegations against the government

Addressing the protest, MLA Bhati leveled serious allegations against the state government. He said that a large number of villagers and elderly people from border areas have come to the capital with their demands, but the government does not seem serious about resolving their problems.

According to Bhati, cases of encroachment of forest land by large companies and industries have been reported in many places, but concrete action is not being taken against them. He demanded that the government immediately formulate a clear policy and enact strict laws.

Protection of Khejri trees and water sources is also an issue

The protesters also raised demands for the protection of traditional trees like the Khejri tree and the conservation of water sources. They say the government previously promised to enact laws on these issues, but no concrete steps have been taken so far.

The long trek started from Tanot.

The "Save Oran" march began on January 21st from the Tanot Mata Temple. Participants traveled hundreds of kilometers to reach Jaipur. Significantly, many participated barefoot, reflecting the seriousness and emotional connection of the movement.

Warning of further intensification of agitation

The protesters have stated clearly that if their demands are not met soon, the movement will escalate further. Currently, the administration is monitoring the situation and appealing for peace.
The "Save Oran" movement in Jaipur has now begun to take a larger form. It's not just a land dispute, but a question of environmental protection, rural life, and the survival of traditional resources. The government's response in the coming days will determine the direction of this movement.
