A tragic accident in Bangladesh has shocked the entire nation. The incident occurred at Daulatdia Ghat in Rajbari district, where a bus full of passengers suddenly lost balance while boarding a ferry and plunged straight into the Padma River.

The bus was carrying around 40 passengers at the time of the accident. Most of them were returning to Dhaka after spending the Eid holidays. So far, 26 people have been confirmed dead in the sudden accident, while several others were injured.

How did the accident happen?

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was being loaded onto a ferry at Daulatdia Ghat. It lost balance and slid into the river. The incident happened so quickly that the passengers didn't even have time to recover.

Some people were trapped inside the bus, while some passengers somehow managed to swim out through the windows and doors.

Rescue operations and recovery efforts

Immediately after the accident, local authorities, divers, and rescue teams launched a rescue operation. Six people have been rescued alive so far.

Rescue teams searched the river for hours and recovered the bodies. However, the river's strong current and depth posed significant challenges in the rescue effort.

Death toll feared to rise

Authorities say some passengers are still missing, and the death toll could rise. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals and are receiving treatment.

Administration response

Local authorities have ordered an investigation into the accident, with initial findings suggesting negligence and a lack of safety standards.

The government has also indicated announcing compensation for the families of the deceased.

People returning after Eid were hit hard

This accident is all the more tragic because most of the passengers were returning from celebrating Eid with their families. This joyous journey suddenly turned into mourning, and many families lost loved ones forever.

This bus accident at Rajbari once again raises questions about safety measures. Had caution been exercised when loading vehicles onto the ferry, perhaps such a major tragedy could have been avoided.

This incident is a warning not only to Bangladesh but to the entire region that safety in public transport and waterways must be given top priority.
